I discovered Ohio Sky lurking around on Twitter and what can I say? These guys are a diamond on a beach of pebbles!
The second I started listening to opener ‘Van Gogh’ I knew the album was going to right up my street. The song opens with blistering guitar work and heavy riffage and then slips in to dreamy vocals and guitar work. The songs section work very effective giving a light and dark effect, making heavy sound heavier and dreamy sound dreamier and this is the synopsis of the album.
‘Waiting for Time to Stop’ is a stand out point for me on the album, with its grunge style riff and its daydream feel, the vocals on this track are beautifully crisp and listening to it is like being wrapped in a warm blanket on a winters day.
Tracks like ‘Project Long shot’, ‘S’ and ‘Curses’ show the bands heavier side with some heavy ‘Stoner Rock’ riffs mixed in to their sonic ‘Space Rock’ attack.
What Ohio Sky manages to do time and time again is paint a beautiful sonic landscape of noise with a crisp and polished sound.
These boys know what they are doing!
The singer can most certainly hold a note and has an amazingly powerful voice
They certainly know their ways around the guitars!
The bassist and drummer lock horns on most tracks to create a solid rhythm section.
Described on the bands twitter as ‘Face Melting Space Jams!’ and this isn’t a lie, at times when they are at full flow I could feel my face dripping from my skull.
You don’t need any hallucinogenic when listening to this album as it will take you on a journey on its own.
What absolutely amazes me is that a band of such obvious ability and talent is not yet known the world over and generic crap is populating our music charts on both sides of the Atlantic.
So do us all a favour and follow the below steps:
